Ah.. it's the Yahtzee review you've been waiting for. This week our favorite game reviewer tackles Nintendo's multiplayer fanfest that is known as Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Some of you may not like what he has to say, but as always, the way he says it is hilarious. I for one,.. tend to agree with some of his points.
According to IGN, Nintendo has announced that Super Smash Brothers Brawl has already sold 1.4 million copies, or 120 per minute!!
This makes the game the fastest selling in the company's history. Nintendo also noted that 874,000 were sold on the first day. Not too bad for a day when many stores are only open till about 6pm.
Only a couple days have gone by, and already things are improving on the biggest weakpoint of Super Smash Brothers Brawl: clogged pipes.
It seems that Nintendo has been hard at work flipping switches, riding bicycle-powered generators, and whipping it's network engineers until their flesh was split and sore, because the online system was working much better this evening on the east coast.
For one, the infamous "missing menu items" finally appeared in our copy of the game. We were fearing for our data after early reports stated that creating a new save game was the way to enable those(Wi-Fi options and Spectator mode), but alas, upon logging on tonight - there they were.
So how about "with anyone" matches? Well they seem to be working better now also. We were able to match up with a full house in a few minutes this evening, and the gameplay was, for the most part, lag free(aside from choppy entrance animations). We also stayed connected when each match ended. The only other time we were able to connect the other day, we were ejected to the Wi-Fi menu after 1 brawl.
Online friend matches continue to work fairly seamlessly.
How are things looking in other parts of the country?
Although this weekend's Super Smash Brothers Brawl launch was largely successful, some users seem to be having issues with the game. In some instances - it won't load at all.
Nintendo has already responded to these concerns - they say the issue is that the dual layer disc that Brawl ships on is harder for the Wii to read - and if the DVD lens has become dirty, it will have issues. Nintendo is offering to clean affected consoles for free, with a one week turn around time. When Brawl was released in Japan a few weeks ago, they experienced the same issues.
Another issue with the game is that it's "with anyone" random matchmaking system seems to be completely broken. Every attempt we've made to play a random online match this weekend was unsuccessful.. never once connecting with even 1 other player. We know Brawl is kind of an underground game that not many people know about, but we figure there must be one or two other people in the US looking for a match, right? No frets, as we're sure Nintendo is aware of the issue and will fix it sooner rather than later.
How are you guys faring with your copies of the game? Are you feeling lonely, unable to play random online matches? Will your Wii even read the game? Or is everything just fine?
Well.. the zero hour is upon us. In about 9 hours from this posting, many of you will be getting your hands on your copy of Brawl, and if you're as into games as we are, staying up into the wee(it wook a LOT not to type wii) hours of the night playing what looks to be one of the finest games that wi ..continue reading Brawl Countdown: 1 Day!
Ahh,.. today is March 6th and theres only 3 more days until Brawl is on store shelves everywhere. Today we feature a video showcasing a lot of the American voice acting.
