Nintendo Download Monday - 3/30/2009 w/ videos
Posted 3/30/2009 at 8:54:33 AM

This is a pretty big week for the virtual console. A first-party Nintendo game is being released, and that's always a big deal. What game, you ask? Super Punch Out (SNES, 800 Points)! Undoubtedly, Nintendo is whetting our appetites for the main course: the upcoming release of Wii Punch Out in a few weeks.

In addition, there is a new WiiWare title this week: Bonsai Barber (1000 Points) which involves.. cutting the hair of different fruit and vegetable based customers.

Bitchin! You can be Duke Nukem.
Posted 3/26/2009 at 1:32:49 PM

Are you a fan of toilet humor? Do you have a golden flat top, abs of Adonis, and a gruff voice? Do you utterly despise aliens? Do you live near New York, LA, or Dallas?

Yes you say? Well perfect! Deep Silver and Apogee Software could use you. They're presently combing the nation in search of a live action Duke Nukem to represent Duke Nukem Trilogy, coming soon for the Nintendo DS(and Sony PSP).

The contest will run in three segments, beginning in New York, then traveling to LA, and finally Dallas. In each city, more and more Dukes will be eliminated until just one is left standing.

Will it be you? Hit the source link below for more information or to sign up.

Wii Menu 4.0 Released - Adds external storage for WiiWare/Virtual Console, breaks Twilight Hack [UPDATED]
    Posted 3/25/2009 at 1:30:32 PM

Today, at the 2009 Game Developers Conference, Iwata announced Wii Menu 4.0 which is live in North America right now.

This is probably the most significant update to the Wii yet, and it's one that's been too long in the making. There are two core changes here- it adds SDHC support, and allows you to download games directly to your SD card. It also affects homebrew tools. Scroll down for info on that.

When we reported on these plans before, the gist was that you would have to transfer games to the internal Wii memory in order to play them, but this is not the case at all. Games can be stored and played directly from the SD card. Beautiful!

With 8 and even 16gb SD cards getting so cheap, it seems like this is a perfect solution and one that won't cost the consumer a cent.

So Nintendo,.. now that we have inexpensive expanded storage.. let's drop that 40mb cap on WiiWare titles and get into some real competition with XBLA and PSN!

    Homebrew Effects

UPDATE: According to hackmii.com, the Homebrew Channel and DVDx ARE still working after the update.

As of now, Wii Menu 4.0 breaks the Twilight Hack, DVDx, and the Homebrew Channel. Not much more is known at this time, so users wishing to preserve this functionality should NOT update. Of course we'll update with more information once it's released.
